Fires burn into the night, smoke carried on the breeze
The spinning threads of destiny have led me to this place
Symbols of the earth and sky are etched into my face
Do men believe in wisdom? Do you believe in fools?
Do spirits haunt the living world and linger in the halls?
Will old men tell their secrets, of hidden paths to tread?
And gods traverse the world between the living and dead.

The bones of ancient creatures brought back into the light
Articulated legends of malevolence and spite
Carved into the surface, lost beneath the grime
Stones have long since fallen into another time
Rocks and heavy iron levered from the ground
Hollows filled with bodies to raise the graven mound
The fiery cross, the crescent moon and stars fall into dust
Seal up their house of death beneath a blackened crust.

Behind the whispered stories hear the dead men speak
The tangled web of root and branch - a path for those who seek
Tales foretell the end of times and now I understand
That life falls through our fingers like so many grains of sand
Hammers swing in unison to bring the towers down
Rivers vomit poison to anoint a rotten crown
A fallen gate, a last redoubt, a line drawn in the sand
Rip apart their web of lies and save this ravaged land.
